Tytgat Foundation’s Internal Rules

  1. The objective of the Foundation is to contribute to the development of scientific research in Belgium, in the field of cancer, its causes, its origins and its treatment.

  2. The Foundation has a fund of which the revenue is awarded every three years to research work that is carried out, at least for the most part, in Belgium.

  3. This award is determined by the Board of Directors upon recommendation of the Scientific Committee.

  4. This committee is made up of five Advisers each one having one vote and designated by the universities of Brussels (ULB), Ghent (RUG), Leuven (KUL), Liège (ULg) and Woluwé (UCL). The presidency of this Committee is ensured successively by each of the Advisers, in the sequential order mentioned here above.

  5. These Advisers may be assisted by a Specialist, unanimously designated by them and approved by the Board of Directors for a duration to be determined; he will have the same right to vote as the Advisers.

  6. The President of the Board (or an Administrator designated by him) will attend the Committee meetings, without having the right to vote, to ensure the coordination within the Foundation.

  7. The deliberations and recommendations of the committee will be made in English. Any work presented will be accompanied by a summary of maximum ten pages.

  8. Unedited manuscripts as well as works that have already been published, will be accepted; they will be accompanied by a note of explanation, in French or English, about the importance of the work.

  9. Collaborative work is accepted between a maximum of three authors.

  10.  The award may not be shared between authors of separate dissertations.

  11. Applications from holders of an award at least equivalent in value to this one, will not be accepted.

  12. In the absence of a valid application, the award will be postponed from year to year and the triennial rhythm will be picked up again as soon as possible.

  13. At the beginning of the academic year preceding the award, the presiding President of the Committee will ensure the communication of the procedure to the Faculties or organisations who may present applications.

  14. The applications should be sent in five copies to the President of the Scientific Committee .

  15. The Advisers contribute on a voluntary basis. If one of them wishes to renounce their mandate, as well as in the event of a death, incapacity or repeated unavailability, the other Advisers will jointly co-opt a replacement from the University that he represented. The president of the Board will ask the Dean of the relevant University to endorse this choice, otherwise another Representative will be co-opted until the Dean gives his approval.
